Standard w/ Red  Sucess!

"Economic Stimulus Refund Climb 2008"
Climbed the standard route and continued on to Red. Started out with the 14ers.com group but went on ahead to make sure I got my moneys worth ;-)

Culebra with the pup  Sucess!

Marni and I joined a group of friendly dog owners for the first legal dog climbing of Culebra peak in 10 years (or so we heard). It was a pretty cold and windy day but the snow was manageable and we got the summit in sunshine. Number 9 for me and Marni and number 53 for another Golden Retriever we were with, Sawyer. Thanks to Josh for organizing the trip.

Mountain Lion  Sucess!

This was my second climb of Culebra. There was still lots of snow on the mountain & the blocking the road before Four Way. There was also a mother mountain lion with a couple cubs watching us from her den.

Paid the money  Sucess!

This was my first climb of Culebra. Since I was up there I walked over and got Red Mountain as well.

Culebra Peak and Red Mountain  Sucess!

From Cielo Vista Ranch, paid the $150.00 and hiked the Northwest Ridge to Culebra Peak and continued on to Red Mountain. This was the last day of the year that Cielo Vista Ranch was allowing climbers on their property. Hunters came for the remainder of the year.

Taylor Ranch  Sucess!

Not really a great climb, but worth checking it out.

Good times  Sucess!

I hiked Culebra with a group from 14ers.com and had a great day a fun bunch of people. I have to agree, however, 100 dollars is a little steep.

culebra

I agree with Hokie Jim. I saw a bear while walking down the road on my way back to the ranch... fun stuff.

NICE to climb an easy one!  Sucess!

After weeks of the harder 14ers, it was SO nice to relax & kick back on easy class 2 Culebra (#45)! We chilled at the summit for over an hour, then saw lightening off in the distance (1st time ever to see this on a 14er summit) and decided to head down. Great day with our group of 11!

Culebra/Red  Sucess!

14'ers.com trip. Surprised at how beautiful this area was. Climb was quick. Red Mountain is ugly and reminded me of Bross. Now $150 bucks poorer.

Great Day on the "Water Snake"  Sucess!

What a great day to summit Culebra and pickup Red Mountain as well. Thanks to the 14ers.com crew for planning this.

Cielo Vista Ranch  Sucess!

Last hiking day of the season. Made the summit in a little over 2 hours. Cold and windy. Scattered snow but most of it was the consistancy of cement. The Aspens were BEAUTIFUL. Culebra was kind of a pleasent surprise. Better than I was expecting. Went over and bagged Red Mountain too. Only 90 minutes RT!

Northwest Ridge  Sucess!

Foggy day. Wipped out the ole map and compass and had fun navigating.

Number 5  Sucess!

Even though it was late August, it was a very cold ascent (around freezing) and very foggy with about 50-60 feet of visibility, but at least the descent was sunny. Probably a very easy walk under normal conditions, but this time it was a good test of navigation skills.

CMC Trip  Sucess!

It is nice to see pictures posted on this mountain as we couldn't see anything all day long. Low clouds, fog and rain hampered visibility down to nearly zero. The climb was pleasant even though we couldn't see where we were going. GPS was most helpful! we totally missed seeing the huge Cairn except from down below where you can see it on the ridge.!! Too funny...

Cielo Vista Ranch  Sucess!

Went up from the upper trailhead. A quick and easy hike, but worth the $150 (also did Red Mtn.)

14erworld climb  Sucess!

With a bunch of fulk from ol' 14erworld. Quite a large and interesting group. A pristine area and saw my first bear in CO!

Route Climbed: Cielo Vista Ranch  Sucess!

I coughed up the $150 to do Red Mountain too since I figure the ranch may get closed sometime in the future. Glad that I did not have to wait to get 53 done and get tossed in the old CMC Lottery. The area is really beautiful.
