So much green and so many crickets
Took the southwest slopes up and over the false summit to the lookout - steep but straightforward, with a tiny bit of routefinding at the top to get around the cliffs at the false summit. Came down the road, quickly bagged Trail Peak as well (easy 300' climb from the road), took a very old two-track down the creek and bushwhacked back to the car. Beautiful scenery but oh dear god the crickets nearly carpeted the ground most of the way! Bugaphobes stay far far away...

good times
Wow, there sure was a lot of cow crap back there... parked at first cattle guard on FS-167 and hiked up the south face. Lots of bird and deer hunters in the area. Enjoyed the interesting rock formations, and the views from the top were fantastic.

From the northwest
Started a bit further north than we’d intended, and ended up dealing with more snow than planned. Almost got stuck in the mud on the way in, but any day in the mountains is a good one. Here’s a trip-report and some photos.

great views
hiked the last 1200 vertical feet or so up the road to the top. Not sure this elevation is accurate but in any event there are great views of the Trinities and Prairie and the South Fork Boise from the summit. Still a fair amount of snow along the road that kept the 4 wheelers off the upper part of the mountain.
