Death Valley from Telescope Peak
Over 11,300' down to Badwater ( -282', the low point in North America) from the 11,049' summit. This awesome scarp goes another 10,000' down below the sediment that fills the valley. The Black Mtns. on the other side of Death Valley are composed of metamorphic rock almost 2 billion years old. Beyond them are the Funeral Mtns. with 6,706' Pyramid Peak, center. Beyond that is the Amargosa desert and more ranges stretch back across Nevada's Great Basin. May '06
