08/2020 - Very long day and remote, lots of off trail, be safe with route finding, lots of cliffs. If solo, show someone else the route you're taking and stick to it. I got lost on the way back through the valley to the tail and had to reascend a few hundred feet in extremely dense and steep forested terrain. The views are absolutely legendary. Next one up should bring a new registry containers, as the one here was smashed. For what was a tough day based on the horrible route I took, It was moderately travelled with 5 ascents that year. I urge others to go partnered on this Scramble. or bring GPS

Late spring snowboarding
I had a friend who was hoping to snowboard a big peak during his visit, and I knew Decker still had significant coverage so we went for it. The terrain leading up to the basin offers a top-notch bushwacking experience. We ascended the snow on the SE face, and were treated to 1800' vertical of riding on our descent. We were the first party this year, and it looked like 5 or 6 parties summited last year. The register is a deteriorating tupperware that could use replacing.

Fun Climb
Did Decker during a backpacking trip. Had camped at the tarn SE of the peak the night before, then climbed to the saddle in the morning where we dropped our packs and scrambled the south ridge to the summit. Excellent views. We then decended to Cramer Lakes and out to Redfish. Fun day. Trip Report

great fall weather
perfect fall weather. Just a dusting of snow from the night before. We used the Huckleberry Creek Trail approach- plenty of downed timber. Eventually made it to the south ridge and followed it for awhile before finishing up the southeast slopes. Great views from the summit and several pretty tarns on the way up. Pretty long day for October 10.5 hours

huckleberry trail
Jerry osborne joined me for this lovely hike. Our approach, which we liked, was a little different than listed on the main page. We drove to Decker flat and then turned left on to a two track road that petered out near the forests edge. We then found the huckleberry trail which is on the right hand side of the creek. Locating the trail is the hard part as there is no trailhead. The trail seems to diverge into myriad cow paths before it leaves the forest. Our method for finding the trail was to enter the woods on the north side of the creek and make our way to the base of the hill where we soon found the trail. It is not well used but has been sawn out in the last two years so is not too dificult to follow. We gained the Hell roaring-Redfish trail in about 1.25 hours. From there we pretty much followed the southern route as described on the main page. This saved the attrocious drive on the hell roaring "road". We took 4.5 hours up and a leisurly 4 hrs back. Only one other party had signed the register for this year and none for the previous two years. Another "private Idaho"experience.

A Forgotten Peak
Camped at Middle Cramer Lake the night before. The lake has a magnificent waterfall and view of the Arrowhead. Climbed from Middle Cramer Lake the next day with two friends from the Midwest. Left the trail just north of Lower Cramer Lake at the stream. Followed the stream to just before the small pond that is south of the summit. Went straight up a steep gully to the ridge near the summit. On the descent we followed the ridge south to the saddle and then down to the pond. Another great Sawtooth Peak.
