Descending Tocllaraju

Descending Tocllaraju

At first glance, you might think that you're looking up the mountain here, but look again. The NW ridge of Tocllaraju has a couple of steeper sections, but apart from one very short part low down, it was never more than 60°. Several snow stakes were testimony to the fact that quite a lot of other climbers had been there before us. In fact, we had met several parties descending while we were still going up after our very late start, but they left the stakes. I used them to lower my climbing partner, then climbed down after him. 1 July 2011.
