Desert Bighorn Sheep of Red Rock

Desert Bighorn Sheep of Red Rock

A beautiful Bighorn Ewe I spotted below Brass Wall on February 14, 2007. Red Rock, Nevada. We ended up spending over two hours together. She would graze and walk around and I would follow. Then she would sit down on rocks and just relax and so would I. Eventually I decided it was time for me to leave and I scrambled down the rocks and sat down to have a drink. A few minutes later I turned around and there she was standing right behind me and looking as if she wondered why I left. A most special moment of 2007. Note that these animals tend to avoid people normally.

Re: Wonderful!!!

Thank you Hiltrud :)
This pic is one of my favorites.
The Ewe was up there by herself and was relaxing on rocks, grazing and taking it easy. I think she might have been pregnant. She didn't mind my presence as long as I kept at certain distance.

Wow!

I love it! Great shot...I have only see them from a distance. I want to get a good picture of one soon. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Wow!

Thanks for bringing back this great memory. I hope she is doing well and that you will find your sheep soon ;)
They are very active in autumn, but a bit more reclusive now then in springtime.
However, about a week ago I witnessed two rams fight deep in Red Rocks. I could not believe that this was actually happening right in front of me. Great experience, especially that the fight didn't look too violent at all. Just two good buddies "wrestling" on a rock, that's all.
Cheers, Anya

Re: I can imagine

Thanks BazZ. Unfortunatelly it's impossible to show through photos. You just had to have been there. Greetings!

The ewe

looked like it wanted to talk to you!
Maybe it wanted to say, "Thanks for taking a picture of me!" Outstanding photo, Anya!

What a precious moment!

I bet your heart melted when you looked up and saw her there. How did you react to that?

Re: What a precious moment!

Yes, it did. I got up and followed her some more until I finally had to go home.
I had many, many great encounters with bighorns after this one (actually one even today just a few hours ago) but I will always remember her especially.
Thanks for the vote and Happy Climbing to you,
AJ
