Introduction
Novemeber 2006 and virtually no climbers to be seen anywhere close to the Col du Midi! Perfect weather conditions prevail for days and yet not an ice axe was seen anywhere near Chere Couloir. What's going on? Is this not one of the most popular climbing spots in Europe?Early November 2006 the Aiguille du Midi lift was closed a for a week for maintainance. While most climbers were catching the last lift back to Chamonix we were catching the last one up knowing full well that there would no escape for a week without a long walk out. The Col du Midi was deserted for the week we spent there and the Mont Blanc Massif has never felt so remote.
