Steep and great views  Sucess!

The ascent ridge that everyone seems to use wasn't immediately obvious to me, either on a map or in person. I went further up the canyon, passing some mining equipment, before finally deciding to head up the slope. I would not advise this, as it was steeper than the normal route, and just barely on the right side of "climbable". The views from the top are unique and beautiful. I took the standard way down and it was easy scree surfing most of the way. GPS trace

good half-day hike close to Vegas  Sucess!

I hiked this one with Brian Anderson on a cool & breezy but very sunny and clear day. Outstanding views!

SE ridge  Sucess!

Climbed w/ Whitney Lyman - plenty of loose scree on the way up, but enjoyable climb with one of the better summit views in the region. Chose a more easterly decent and would not recommend this route.

This peak is geologically unique -- it's made of rhyolite, in a chain of limestone peaks. The Native Americans used obsidian from nearby to make arrowheads. There is still a "pearlite" mine near the base, where one can see hydrated obsidian blown into the neighboring limestone.

Despite all the loose stuff on the way up, I really enjoyed this obscure little peak. The views along the ridge and from the summit were phenomenal.
