Colorado jewel
In a nod to McCannster, I did this a couple weeks after the Sierra Buttes, and was pleased by both the stairs and the fact that this lookout is still occupied, as opposed to the Buttes' dereliction. As Mr. Cross also noted, this was surprisingly busy on a shoulder-season Thursday. Weather was a bit toasty but gorgeous.

Can't believe it took me this long to do this. Great sunset views and colors from the top. Impressive stairway at the top, probably second only to the one on the Sierra Buttes. Short jaunt from the trailhead.

Incredible views
Despite hearing some thunder on the way up, we pressed on and luckily had completely clear skies. We had the fantastic 360 degree views from the lookout all to ourselves while we were there.

There was a storm rolling in, but I remember the sun light hit the aspens in a really nice way. It was still bright out and peaceful.

Super easy hike up with awesome views. Lots of rock formations to scramble along aside the trail.

Impressive easy summit
Did this on a Thursday and it was very busy. Not so busy when I arrived at 9:00, but the crowds have not arrived yet. Took us about an hour to reach the summit.
A group of my fellow soldiers from Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center hiked this fantastic mountain in the summer of 1995. It was the biggest mountain I had ever been on to that point.
Last visited May 1990. Time to revisit...on a recent trip from Denver to Colorado Springs my wife noticed the prominence and asked if I knew what it was.

Devil's Head Lookout Trail
Peakbug and I climbed this on a rainy day to avoid crowds in nicer weather. The day worked out well, as it wasn't busy and we had good views of the surrounding mountain tops poking out of the clouds. A fun and quick hike.
Climbed with rkymtn with a rainy start to the day. Thought the rain would make this a perfect option, since this is typically a busy location. The drizzle and clouds made for a lovely walk in the woods. Felt like we were in the Northwest. Views were terrific and very few others on trail. Easy, lovely day. :)

Very nice and popular hike
Did this the Tuesday AFTER Memorial Day and still there were lots of people. The nice ranger let me climb and tag the high point behind the fence/sign.

Worth the small effort!
Our family trip to the Midsouth and back included a stop to visit family in Castle Rock. I managed to squeeze in some enjoyable exercise, scenic views, and historical information for myself and my dogs. Unfortunately this was the highest peak I managed to hike in Colorado this time around....lots of scenic driving and short hikes in scenic areas though.
