Snyder is a saint. Kerouac too.
Is Morley based on Phillip Whalen?
For anyone interested in this aspect of the Beat Gen 'Poets on the Peaks' is a beautiful book which deals solely with the time these fellas spent as fire lookouts, it is unsurpassed. Great photos of the Cascade range in there too.
I pretty much read this book 10 years ago and tryed to live like it for another six. It is a great book and more people should read it. Thank for the page.
Kerouac's ON THE ROAD got me back into hiking and backpacking and peak bagging after a long layoff. THE DHARMA BUMS remains one of my favorite Keroauc novels. Next year I'll be scrambling around in Grand Tetons/Yellowstone. But in 2009 I'm headed to the Sierras where I've promised myself a climb/hike to the summit of Matterhorn Peak.
thanks!
I am actually reading On The Road right now, I downloaded the book online. I also have promised myself to climb Matterhorn, am planning my trip this summer, I plan to bring bulgur wheat as my staple food :)
