Dhaulagiri south face

Dhaulagiri south face

There isn't much to say about this amazing face: it's simply one of the most beautiful and impressive south faces of the world. It's also one of the highest ( around 4000 meters ) and probably the most difficult to climb. Nobody has ever climbed the mountain from this side. Messner in the 70's led a famous expedition to won this terrible face but he had to give up. This was what he said about it: "Death zone - one of the last great mountain adventures". In 1999 Tomaz Humar, solo and in alpine style, climbed almost all the face ( some websites say that he climbed all the face but it's not true, it was forced to traverse at 7300 m to the Japanese route on the south-east crest ) but he couldn't reach the summit. He rated the route VII 90° M7+. A great exploit anyway.

Awesome

This is an amazing face and an amazing photo of it as well. I have read about Messner and Humar's attempt and it makes it even more incredible.
