Diamond, Buttress, and Couloir

The Diamond is the face on the left, and the buttress (not to be confused with Diamond Buttress) is just to the right (easier to distinguish if viewed in "Orig"). Next to that there is a Class 2 (when snow-free) gully/couloir, but a more sporting way to climb the Diamond without getting into moderate-to-difficult trad routes is to use the buttress itself. Expect plenty of Class 3 and 4 climbing, and some Class 5; the closer you stay to the crest, the harder and better the climbing is. The buttress does not join the Diamond directly but rather drops to a notch about 100 vertical feet below the Diamond's summit. From there, two viable options-- a snow climb and a Class 5 face climb-- exist. The large face to the right is called Pillar Buttress. Snowy Range, WY-- July 2010
