from Poison Spring  Sucess!

3.5 hours car to car from Poison Spring, tagging Alpha on the way. Nice use trail in most spots, just a little bushwacking to contend with going over/around a couple of the bumps on the way to Diamond. Nice late afternoon jaunt before heading home.

From Poison Spring at the 2nd cattle fence gate  Sucess!

10-15-17 W/ Yadahzoemtn. Our third NV county highpoint in as many days. For once, only a refreshing breeze. Don't be fooled into thinking the prominent rounded bump you can see for a long long time is the summit; it's about another half mile from that point over to the much more pointed and picturesque real summit. But it's a quick and pleasant walk provided the weather is cooperating. It was for us.

from Poison Spring  Sucess!

Drove in to just before second cattle gate at Poison Spring. Road very rutted from there on. Only person on the mountain on a warmish hazy day.

Diamond Peak  Sucess!

From Newark Pass. Also did Alpha Peak on the return hike. Really cool mountain and fun hike. Still a fair amount of snow up high. Nevada County Highpoint #11/17.

via southwest ridge  Sucess!

I hiked this one with Steven Stembridge, Al Sandorff, Rich & Bhe Wilson, Collin Kamholz and Jodie Schraven. We parked at the 8800-foot saddle above the stock tank at the end of the Poison Spring Road. It was a windy day with gusts up to 45 mph

Poison Spring  Sucess!

Started from the saddle past Poison Spring. The road was rough but not too bad for my Outback. Views were a bit haze due to fires. Also stopped by Alpha Peak on the return.

From Poison Spring  Sucess!

A calm and clear day. Lots of green thanks to the heavy snow this year.

lost and lost  Sucess!

came in at dawn and missed turn. i should have turned left along fence at second gate (poison springs). after my correction, drove up past bloated dead cow (take a right) and had a great hike to summit. came in via dump road, but somehow ended out on east side hwy 892. this was ok as was going to ely and grafton. not a good day for my sense of direction

Evening hike  Sucess!

Went back up just for the heck of it on the way to Ely, saw the feral horses running amok on the saddles below the summit. Very enjoyable and windy climb once again. The green sign was laying down the slope, I placed it back in the cairn, hopefully to stay. The old registers from my previous ascent are nowhere to be found. Watched the beautiful sunset on the way back down, the use trail is difficult to follow on the way up, but going down I was able to stay with it the entire time - it really does take the best line, swapping sides of the ridge occasionally, and makes the return a fast one.

Southwest Ridge  Sucess!

We parked just below Newark Summit due to heavy snow blocking the road beyond that. The route to the summit was very snowy, so the hike took us most of the day. Windy, but beautiful! There's a register container at the summit, but it's not waterproof and is pretty beat up. If we'd known to bring a replacement, we would have.

Southwest Ridge  Sucess!

Just drove from Salt Lake City in the morning and hit the summit around 1:00 pm. I was able to drive to the saddle at 8800'

This is a nice hike, very enjoyable. We got a little wet on the way back to the car. The local's refer to these storms as "turd floaters", so I actually felt better because we didn't "float" off the mountain.

A really nice hike to a lofty summit. The mailbox is no longer up there although a register was there. A red can with glass bottle combo. Nice viewpoint but we didn't stay long as it started snowing on us and we beat a storm that lashed the summit and area not long after we got to our vehicle. For Dennis Poulin and myself, it was our 3rd peak in 3 days.

Summited during a tree-coring expedition --- imagine my surprise finding that mailbox on top! I then decended down the south-east ridge a ways looking for trees, and traversed the south face back to the ascent route.

The summit register had about 20 entries in the last 2-3 years.
