My 1st 12er

Late snow made for an awesome climb up this mountain. Very little scree sliding due to the snow. Just deep enough to have solid traction, and some fun little rocks to climb on too. Great peak, beautiful area.

East Ridge  Sucess!

We got a predawn start to avoid any trouble with thunderstorms. Nice ridge scramble, great views. There is a lot more to the Lemhi range than I anticipated, looking forward to revisiting this area and picking off the other P2K's here.

Diamond Peak  Sucess!

Climbed three different times in the 80's, all up from Badger Creek on the west side and up the endless scree slope slog to the west ridge.

Beautiful

My partner and I attempted Diamond on a beautiful sunny day. We were alone except for a herd of about 30 pronghorn. I'm comfortable with 3rd class scrambling but some of the taller pitches were out of my skill level so we turned back a few hundred feet from the summit. After gaining more experience I'll definitely be back!

East Ridge  Sucess!

Long hike in. A little rock climbing on rotten rock on the top sections. Beautiful views and geography to observe.

East Ridge  Sucess!

Really fun scramble up the East Ridge on a beautiful day. Traversed the ridge to the Riddler, which had some complicated route finding.

East Ridge  Sucess!

We camped one night at 9200' in a saddle where we found what appeared to be an old hunting camp. Perfect place carved out for a tent. Apparently we braved a tornado in the night, which gave way to incredible looking weather patterns, high winds, an inversion, and a gorgeous sunrise the next day. We had plenty of calls on our cell phones when we got back to the truck telling us about the tornado reported on Diamond Peak. We had no indication that we were going to be hit with a storm the day before- great day, a bit windy, but otherwise great.

This was my favorite 12'er by far. A great scramble.

Walking in the Sky  Sucess!

This mountain is awesome! Rode on bike from Idaho Falls, slept under the stars, and on Sunday climbed up all the way to the mighty summit via the east ridge. I set off at 9 and reached the top by 1 PM. On my way up I must have met the climber kdonaldson and his friend. The weather was perfect and the views were magnificent. The walk to the top-most summit felt like walking in the heaven. The air was thin and I found it little bit hard to breathe. This is the highest peak I have ever visited in my life. I can still feel my stiff legs and feet. Thank you, Diamond Peak, for letting me safely to your summit!

East Ridge  Sucess!

On our first attempt of the east ridge in Nov 2008, we turned back just as we were entering into the crux. Cold, wind and loose snow on rock was not fun. This time - what a massive difference. The weather couldn't have been better. We summited in 4 hours hit the summit at 9 am with almost no wind, and 49 degrees. So nice we spent 40 minutes up there before heading down (3 hours to get down). An extremely enjoyable scramble. My 7th of 9 idaho 12'ers. Last 2 are church and donaldson. Diamond is probably the most technical of the 9 in my opinion.

Southwest Ridge Madness  Sucess!

Climbed with Zach V. We came up from the west instead of the standard East Ridge route. From this side the mountain is a crumbling mess of loose scree and dirt. It takes an exhausting amount of effort just to reach the ridge leading to the summit because the scree is SO bad. I cannot emphasize enough how ROTTEN the rock is on the southwest ridge. The rest of the hike is great though. We were the only ones on top.

East Ridge  Sucess!

My good friend, Scott Smith, and I climbed the east ridge in hit and miss weather. We had a fantastic day on a spectacular summit. This was my first time in the Lemhi Range and it was well worth it.

Winter Ascent?  Sucess!

Okay it wasn't "technically" winter, but it had all the qualities! Started up the East Ridge route at noon and summitted at 5:00 PM. No visibility on upper 2000'. We were plowing through waist deep snow at times. No views, but still well worth the effort!!

A good combination of climbing and route decisions keeps you fully engaged, making Diamond an effort I enjoyed very much.

East Ridge  Sucess!

Climbed the east ridge on a warm day. This is a very enjoyable mountain because of the solid rock and fun scrambling. Almost all of the ridge was dry except for the top which had snow.

East Ridge  Sucess!

Great climb with Dennis, Duane, and Grant. Fun scrambling, but it was not fun dodging the hail on the way down. And that storm came up and then completely disappeared within about 30 minutes or so. Otherwise perfect weather. Amazing!
