Trail not maintained  Sucess!

There's a heavily-used trail up Disaster Creek, but after leaving that there's nothing but cow paths. Fortunately it's open country so little in the way of log-hopping and bush-wacking. 8.5 hours round trip. There's a summit register in a glass jar, placed just last year by Peter Carey and Sarah Daou. Not a popular peak; the previous entry was three months before.

Cows  Sucess!

Went straight up to the west ridge from the large meadow (actually started at the spot pictured on the main page as the 'climber's trail'. This is not the right way to go). Came down through cow country on the paradise valley trail.

minor Disaster  Sucess!

When we couldn't find the start of the old trail so we headed straight up and after some thrashing, stumbled upon it. We lost it again and took the very steep south slope of the west ridge to the foot of the summit and climbed the loose talus. With Glenn and Tommey

Disaster averted  Sucess!

That title is a lie, the was no danger. Made this a loop by heading up the iceberg first before going to Disaster. The bush bash up to iceberg is quite rough and not at all fun. After that though it's a nice romp up the ridge with commanding views of neighboring peaks. From the summit we dropped down to the meadow between Disaster and Arnot where a bear was having a good rummage for springtime food. All in all, a good short day.

Hiking to Lightning, Disaster and The Iceberg out of the Disaster Creek TH, relatively easy day. Trip Report.

Disaster and Arnot  Sucess!

From Disaster Creek TH, stayed on trail for the most part until the last slog up to the east ridge, sandy slopes made for some tough climbing. Then followed the ridgeline around over to Arnot, enjoyed the rocky traverse over the last quarter mile to Arnot. Really enjoyable day. Trip report is HERE

Day Hike from Disaster Creek TH  Sucess!

This is peak is NOT hard. But after day-hike of Black Hawk Mtn in the morning (11 hours), it was hard for me then. Carefully route-finding will save you time. I followed a dry creek at beginning, then the obvious trail. Try to get up to the ridge, otherwise you will end up lots of bushwhacking.

Nice hike  Sucess!

A morning hike prior to doing Stanislaus Peak later in the day. Trail was hard to find at one point as the page mentioned but it ended up being a better route. Circled around and came up the north slope of the peak.

Disaster Creek  Sucess!

Easy but scenic hike up via Disaster Creek, after being turned back a couple years ago by snow blocking the road. Actually overshot the west ridge as I did not notice the trail cutting up the mountain and took the next one immediately north for about a mile, so from there up the northwest slope. Headed over to do Stanislaus Peak in the afternoon.

West Ridge  Sucess!

Courted Disaster but she came around. Found what I thought was the climber's trail but it petered out so a fair amount of up hill cross country ensued. The three rolls of barbed wire mentioned by Bob Burd in 2002 and others are still there seemingly no worse for the wear despite that passage of nine years.

Disaster Creek/West Ridge  Sucess!

Nice sunny late season day

I missed the turn for both the climbers trail and the formal trail and ended up heading cross country from the Paradise Valley trail. (Which turned out to be a reasonable route)

Substantial snow on the higher peaks off towards Sonora Pass, but it was only a few inches on the north facing slopes in the Disaster vicinity.

Cold enough to freeze up the cow shit at least :)

Pics/commentary are here.

Long Day  Sucess!

Climbed Disaster after hitting Arnot Peak, starting from Highland Lakes. We ascended from Paradise Valley and returned via the PCT. Round trip the hike was something like 18 miles. Beautiful area. The views of the Sonora Pass area are great. Hiked with Jonodo.

Morning Summit  Sucess!

Started at sunset and decided to pitch the hammock in the meadows near the intersection with the climber's trail. The meadows were very lush and wet this early in the season. Much of the climber's trail was covered in snowdrifts so I had trouble at times finding the route. Almost walked into a big brown black bear on the way down. Good stuff.

West Ridge  Sucess!

After climbing Sonora Pk. and Stanislaus Pk. in the morning, this hike turned out to be thougher than expected. First I missed the faint use trail completely and ended up climbing Pt.9251 from the west. Saw a bear on this steep slope. Then climbed the West Ridge from there. On the descent I managed to find the use trail just to lose it a few minutes later and ended up descending a steep gully >1000ft straight down to the main trail.

Distaster Peak Under Gunfire  Sucess!

Climbed with my friends Bruce and Dee. I think we took the regular route. There was a lot of gunfire near the road from the hunters. I also saw a bear on the way up.
