Doane Mountain, Under The Watchful Eye of George Washington

Doane Mountain is the summit just to the southwest of Mt. Rushmore.  Also sometimes referred to as "Reardon's Rock", this rock provides numerous scrambling opportunities, plus a couple of established rock climbing routes.  Despite that, there are not usually many climbers, due to the Wrinkled Rock Climbing Area to the northwest, Mt. Rushmore to the northeast, Old Baldy Mountain to the north and a few spires in the immediate area.  At 5,460 feet, Doane Mountain is more than 200 feet lower than Mt. Rushmore, giving George Washington and his companions a view from above.
