Drove up to just above the Victoria Mine and hiked the road the rest of the way up. Still a fair amount of snow on the road. Great views all around. Especially of Ibapah and the Deep Creek Mountains. This was my 100th P2K.
For some reason I kept calling this Dolly Parton peak instead. I also saw several wild horses on the way up to the mountain.
Drove up just after dark...thanks for the great directions and milages on this page. Camped with the whole family just below the summit in a meadow. Map and pictures at http://www.willhiteweb.com/nevada_climbing/dolly_varden/mountains_332.htm
Did this one with Ken Jones and redsplashman23. Enjoyed the views from up on the summit and despite the fact that it had a road, it was still interesting as we didn't know what to expect after that
big warning/no trespassing sign. I agree that the purpose of that sign is to keep you out of the mines, not off the summit.
12-9-12 Visited the summit again with Dennis P. after we had driven from doing two other summits, Wilson Peak and Highland Peaks to make this one the third peak of the day. Cold cold cold but hey, this is December and we were only able to visit the summit because the road wasn't snowed in.
This was summit provided some relief and great views after summiting Pilot Peak the day before.
