Drei Zinnen/Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Drei Zinnen/Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Drei Zinnen seen from the Forcella Lavaredo, from the left Kleine, Grosse, and Westliche Zinne. The famous North Face of the Grosse Zinne/Cima Grande is seen nearly in profile in the middle of the photo. This is one of the "Six Great North Faces of the Alps", and said to be the one requiring the most steady nerves.

Breath-taking ..

Would have thought the Eiger would be more
challenging, but wouldn't hurt to have nerves
of steel when climbing both!

Re: Breath-taking ..

Yes, the Eiger north face is longer, and probably more difficult and dangerous, but the unnerving part of the Grosse Zinne north face is its smoothness, and also that it is partly overhanging (all of the yellow lower part), so if you lose anything, or kick down a pebble, it will seem to fall away from the face!

Re: good shot

Thank you. Yes, I like the contrast between the ant-like people and the immense rocks - even though the people are actually much closer, and the peaks therefore even larger than it seems.

Love it!

Nice picture, Einar! Reminds me a little bit of the Cimarron Range here in Colorado. Only these are definitely much more grand. I swear, I need to leave the USA for a while and move to Central Europe.
Thanks for posting! :o)

Re: Love it!

Thank you for the kind comment. The Alps are definitely worth a visit, or actually several visits, as it would be hard to go to all of the major groups in even a long holiday. Living in Europe might require getting used to some very heavy taxation, though, depending on the country you choose ;-)

Re: I genuinely thought

Thank you. Actually, I have had other people make similar comments about these peaks, for instance saying that they looked like ruins of a giant building.

Great composition

Without the ant-like people at the bottom, the photo would not ba as inspiring. An awesom shot, cheers!

Re: Great composition

Thank you. Yes, it was lucky there were so many people around, I have other photos from the same spot where there weren't any.
