Went in September and brought my dog. I didn't know if it was hunting season so she sported a nice orange vest!
Consumed too much and my brain was glowing for the hike. Nice area. Roadtrip from Ohio.
A peaceful walk to the Summit and this is the end of my trip 12/12 highpoint’s. What a great way to see America!
Little over 2 mile round trip hike... not flat, but not super steep. When I got to the summit after leaving Mt. Zion Church parking lot, there was a lizard on the stump marking the summit, so I guess I was beat to it!
Climbed with my 2 kids
This is Louisiana. I flew into Memphis. I then proceeded on a 1,955-mile road trip through the southern states to bag the highpoints in MO, AR, LA, FL, AL, and MS. Here is LA, highpoint number 20/51 for me and ranked 48/51. Parked at the rear of Mt Zion Church. I was the only one there for miles and miles. The trailhead starts in the rear of the church parking lot next to the cemetery. As you start up the trail, you are strongly encouraged to wear orange or pink during hunting season and two orange vests were hanging on the gate. The trail is well marked and is an easy walk. It was steaming hot in the bayou, I wore a ball cap and sunglasses, but found no need for bug spray.
Great day for a hike. Directions were very good. Trail behind the old church and cemetary. Signs along the trail tell about the families that support the trail. Gradual incline over the 1.5 miles to the top. Good views at the top along. orange vests were left at the trail head to year in hunting season.
A work meeting brought me to MS and so i took advantage of the free airfare and tackled the "mountain" in LA. Proud to be about a quarter of the way through the 50 state highpoints.
Wet and muddy. And my knee was a mess, probably on of the only state high points I could have reached that messed up..
Not much of a hike, did it in my flip-flops on my way back from a funeral. With somber in the air I made the most of this detour by googling nearby attractions. I got lucky when I went to Lake Bistineau State Park and found a drained lake!! It was other worldly as I rode my mountain bike around the bottom of a lake bed amoungst the exposed bald cypress underwater tree root system. Just bizarre.
Uneventful quick trip at sunset. Ran out of daylight on the way back. A lot of water on the trail.
First leg of a Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas weekend from Houston.
HP #38. Enjoyable trail to the summit. Thank goodness the trail was in the shade the whole way.
Flew into Shreveport in morning stopped for some crawfish and then headed here. Hot and humid but no issues. Start of epic road trip
Fourth highpoint on my journey. Drove out early and had a morning hike to the summit.
Nice short hike in the wonderful state of Lousiana. Good trails.
Second HP for the day (first was AR) on the way back from parents taking the LONG way back to Texas. Was in a rush to get back to DFW didn't get to fully enjoy the little hike back and up to the HP. It was a beautiful day.
Started the morning here shortly after sunrise. Trees are not marked as well although it is a fairly quick high point. Definitely out in the boondocks...
A bucket list goal since junior high accomplished.
Had a nice late-afternoon hike here. The "mountain" wasn't much, but the woods were scenic in their own right. Lots of bugs, though.
