This was a nice little spot with some good improvements. Marks my halfway point with this being #25.
First in line on a trip of 16 HP's. Nice trail and great setup on top of the mountain. Great to finally get started on the 50!
After summiting Signal Hill - Mt. Magazine the previous day, I took only four of our high school youth on this other short walk in the woods. Two high school students + my adult chaperone were not feeling at the top of their game.
Even the very unseasoned 15-year-old hiker who was caked in make-up and wore flip-flops (and is terrified of "all bugs") seemed to enjoy herself. Because we left the other three from our group in the van, we didn't dally. We were up and back within 30 minutes. It felt great to tag SHP #23.
Signs along a descent little path on private property. Well maintained highpoint area. It is about the best it could be, considering all factors.
HP #29 for me. HP #13 for Lillian. We visited with friends Sam and Laura from nearby W. Monroe, LA on a southern road trip. Nicely maintained trail and hill top..even with a small and unexpected view!
Hit on a cross country drive from MS to CA. Liked the American flags at the top.
2 day/ 2 "summit" trip with my wife Kim. Summit gained via the customary route from the Zion trail head. Battled glacial runoff (Melting ice), AMS (slight headache), and nearly had to abort the summit bid D/T surprise storm moving in (not really, it just sounds good). We pressed on and persevered. Summit achieved at exactly 1200 CST.
Trail was muddy but manageable D/T gravel and pine needles. It is well maintained and marked. Great Thanks to the landowners who keep this open and developed!
Sick trip down south to do Driskill. The weather was very pleasant and a little humid. We bagged the "False Mountain" as well as the highpoint. Great little outing in a rural setting.
Go figure, climbed this on the hottest day of the year, I think. It was around 104 with a heat index near 110. A Camelback was essential! This was highpoint #4 for me.
Dy wouldn't go into the cemetary with me.
A night climb, highly technical.
hiked late in the afternoon, cool weather. it was hot and muggy so later in the day was better. we were the only ones there !!
hard to find trailhead but we did find it after some turn arounds.
Stopped here on the way home from texas. Was a very to get out of the car and walk a little bit. Trail well marked easy to follow.
Nice hike on a cool "spring" morning in north-central Louisiana.
Long drive from New Orleans to bag state highpoint #7.
We made a short side trip while driving from New Orleans to Dallas after running the Rock & Roll Half Marathon. Good thing this was an easy hike. Very nice area.
Climbed Mt Magazine and Driskill Mountain during a 2-day highpointing trip with Sarah. The weather was cool but clear both days. (HP #39)
What a very peaceful and enjoyable hike. Me and my 11-year son stopped on the way to the northernmost part of the state. A beautiful quiet highway leads up to the trailhead. No other visitors were there when we arrived, and all we could hear was a few birds chirping. A 55 degree sunny sky made for perfect conditions. Easy to find your way up, just stay on the widest, most traveled looking trail. When you get to the base of the south summit, you will actually head NW and take a clockwise path around it before the last steep approach to the north summit. Perfect for casual or beginning highpointers like myself!
We hiked to the highpoint of Louisiana and then spent some time looking at the old tombstones in the cemetery at the trailhead. State HP #45.
Getting warm and humid. Quick hike through forest that was probably more wildflower-strewn a few weeks ago. HP#15...and two in one day with Arkansas!
