EDIT: my appologies; spectular photo indeed. Rescaling/saturating images is an awfully common tactic on here. Again congratulations on being being at the perfect time and place!

Situations like this happen (very seldom) when the sky is clearing on the side of the sun and its rays illuminate the scene from near the horizon.
I want to make clear that, although very unusual, this photo is totally genuine. I never manipulate my photographs other than adjusting local contrast and sharpness, and some noise reduction when necessary.
