Re: Queen

seeing Duchess's smile on this trip definitely lit me up Liba...she colic...as you are probably aware, number one killer in horses is their stomach/intestines...their large intestine is not attached...a bad colic can lead to a torsion which, unless operated on, leads to automatic painful death...she had an operation 11 months ago to flip it, but tons of complications....many horses don't succeed and few if any succeed from multiple operations....she was suffering so...hardest thing I have ever done in my life...tons of what ifs, I can't help 2nd guessing our decisions...I know I shouldn't but just can't help it...I am in deep sorrow. Thanks for your thoughts Liba...means a ton.

Re: Queen

I am sorry Dow... I remember her surgery well, we were climbing Rainbow Buttress, and Stacey was in Las Vegas with Charisma... I hope that Stacey is ok... I wish to help somehow...
Thanks about Duchess... She is 11, and I worried about the moment when her time will come up...

Such a trusty mountaineer!

Do you know about how many summits Duchess has graced?

Re: Such a trusty mountaineer!

No, not really, but she did Sneffels 3x, over 42 fourteeners...+ many other mountains... She is slowing down now, and it hurts me to see it...

Re: Such a trusty mountaineer!

I know what you mean. I have a big cat who is like a son to me. At 16 he is unable to do many of the things he effortlessly did a few years back. But he has lost none of the sheen on his fur or the sparkle in his eye. His big appetite is still there too! I've learned a lot observing how he handles the aging process with such selfless dignity and grace.

One of the many things animals can teach us, no question....I can tell you Duchess is my hero, she takes care of her mother in the best way
