E Face Wet Avalanche

E Face Wet Avalanche

Sickening Avalanche on the East Face of Columbia Point. April 30, 2007. High temps created this 2000 ft. point release slide. Our ascent actually crossed slide path (cairned)along the top of the rock band just 100 ft below starting point. We were ahead of it by about 120 min. Wisely decided to descend ridge-crest due to obviously loose conditions. Descended 45 before slide. Whew.

Sickening for sure

That was one of the crazyiest things that happened on our Sangre trip. Ben and I were 45 mins away from being on that slope and in the slide path, but we kept our shovels in our packs and continued on to Obstuction without thinking twice about going up the face.
