Centerpiece of the Wallowas  Sucess!

Hiked up Eagle Cap from Mirror Lake, then continued on via a circuitous route to the east ridge of Glacier Peak, but turned around near the top due to building clouds. Great views and cool lava dikes visible on the cliff face of Eagle Cap!

Side trip on lakes basin loop  Sucess!

I did a solo 3-day loop of the lakes basin starting and ending at Wallowa Lake with camps at Frazier lake and Mirror Lake. I wasn't sure if I could get across to Eagle Cap from Glacier pass (I see now that it isn't that tough) so I descended the pass and went up from Mirror Lake, where I set up my camp. Then out through the basin and back down to the W. Fork of the Wallowa valley on Day 3. Great trip. Saw a pine marten on peak of Eagle cap.

Evening  Sucess!

Via Glacier Pass. Hiked into Mirror, set up camp and then hiked to Glacier Pass from there. Easy scrambling and a little snow climbing from this side. Made it to the top at sunset, it was awesome.

Eagle Cap Summit  Sucess!

Started from the Wallowa Lake Trailhead. My brother and I completed about a 12 mile day into base camp before summiting early next morning. Attempted Sacagawea Peak the same day out of Ice Lake but were unsuccessful.

A+ Wallowas  Sucess!

Route: East Fork Lostine to Horton's Pass

One of my favorite Wallowa climbs, for the great camping spots in the lakes basin and the long approach across the Lostine meadow with Eagle Cap looming in the distance the entire time. In late October, there was patch snow in the meadows, but the lakes weren't frozen yet. While crampons might have been useful for the last 500 or so feet to the summit, it was slow, but easy enough going without them. Great views of the Matterhorn from the summit. So great, in fact, that I had to come back the next weekend :)

Awesome views!  Sucess!

My girlfriend and I hiked up from our base camp @ Mirror Lake. 2000+ feet elevation in 2+ miles... steep but quite manageable. We startled several bighorn sheep before starting the final push to the summit. Expect incredible views. Do not expect solitude... we were fortunate to have the summit to ourselves for 20 minutes before other visitors began to appear.

Single-Day Hike  Sucess!

This was a very scenic hike, which I did as a single-day trip. The East Lostine River valley is very nice, especially when it opens up into a large meadow area. The views from the summit are spectacular. 5h15m up, 4h20m down.

backpacking peak bag  Sucess!

Backpacking through Glacier Pass. Ditched the pack, ran the ridge line and scrambled up the North Face/Ridge. Jogged down to the saddle between Glacier and Eagle, slid down the glacier and ran back down the ridge... 70 minutes round trip. Rock is Crumbly lower down but firms up a bit, the black bands are pretty rotten.

Snow, snow, and more snow  Sucess!

We started the day before at the Wallowa Lake trailhead and hiked into Lakes Basin for a 12 mile day. Started encountering snow at about Horseshoe Lake, and as we gained elevation towards Douglas lake, the trail was completely under snow. We had to just bushwhack our way to Mirror lake.

Mirror and Moccasin were still 95% frozen over, with just a few feet of the shores having ice cold water. There was still 1-2 feet of snow on the ground all around the lake, and luckily we found a small melted area under a tree to set up camp.

The next morning we awoke at 5:45 to make our attempt at Eagle cap. The entire day would be climbing on snow. We went up where the trail normally goes, but during this time of the year it was just a steep snow chute. Once on the bench, we decided that instead of taking Horton's pass, we would just climb up the snow to the low point on the West ridge right before Eagle Cap. It was steep snow, but kicking in large footholds we made it to the ridge. From the ridge it was an easy scramble on snow/rock to the top. Beautify blue skies and no wind at the top.

After labor day  Sucess!

Went up the East Lostine, starting late on labor day. Camped at the top of some falls. Dropped packs next day at Upper Lake for the final walk up. Didn't encounter anyone on the mountain, maybe because of late start and thunderstorms in area. Verizon service on top, but not ATT.

Lostine River Trail  Sucess!

Wow this was a great one! The trailhead was full but I hardly saw anyone on the trail. There were a few other parties camping at Mirror Lake but it wasnt crowded. It was still really snowy so summiting was a fun challenge, not a soul on top for the 1.5 hours I was up there. Incredible view!...but lots of mosquitos at the lake!

Dayhiked  Sucess!

Surprisingly easy dayhike from TwoPan trailhead, left jeep at 6am, top of first set of switchbacks by 7am, bridge at 8am, base of horton pass a little before 9am, and on the summit at 10am. BS'd with some Bend residents for about an hour, then scrambled up Moccasin Peak behind Mirror Lake so I could ensure I broke the 20 mile mark for the day.

this is summitlog entry #100 for me on Summitpost, yay!
