West Face Direct  Sucess!

The West Face Direct has some great quality rock for Death Valley NP
My wife Penelope and I scrambled up this wonderful route on March 6th, 2022. We found the rock solid and the climbing "rock climbers"
class 4 and very esthetic for Death Valley NP. There are few if any routes of this quality in the Park. Go do it if you are visiting the Park, it is much more entertaining than the regular route's scree slope nightmare.

Believe the hype  Sucess!

A true gem of the California desert! Took a class 2 gully up further north than the one given by Bob Sihler, then contoured around until picking up the use trail and cairns. Great beta from Sihler, Burd, Zdon, Stockman: went down the dryfall system, which I couldn't see in the early morning with the sun rising behind the mountain. The final scramble to the summit was probably the spiciest class 3 I've experienced. Saw a shoal of pupfish in the Amargosa River on the way back as a bonus!

Great peak!  Sucess!

Heather and I climbed this on New Year's day as part of a 6 day trip. From Eagle we went on to climb Beatty Mountain, Bonanza Mountain, Sutherland Mountain, Rainbow Mountain, Black Peak, Thimble Peak, Manly Beacon, Golden Canyon Peak, Jubilee Mountain, Pyramid Peak, and Corkscrew Peak. We also explored Rhylite Ghost Town, Leadfeild Ghost Town, Titus Canyon, Golden Canyon, Sidewinder Canyon, Badwater, Mosaic Canyon, and the Mesquite Dunes.

Standard DPS Route  Sucess!

This was by far the best peak in our four days in Death Valley. We went on to climb Brown Peak in the afternoon making for a fairly easy day.

Eagle Twice in Two Days  Sucess!

I went out there on a Friday with the idea of climbing Eagle in the afternoon, camping over night and meeting the early departing LVMC group (they were leaving Las Vegas at the ungodly hour of five a.m.) on their way to Brown, with a follow up to Eagle. So I climbed Eagle on Friday and loved it. Steep, but mostly good rock, and a excellent narrow class 3 summit ridge. Fantastic views. On Saturday I went out and climbed Brown with the LVMC group, and then came back and climbed Eagle again. It was worth it. Short, but very sweet.

Quite a fun surprise!  Sucess!

Winter 2013

Climbed with Eli before he had to go to work. This was a FUN climb, surprisingly great rock for this area. We took the central gully from the west right from the parking area. On the way up we chose the left chute in the gully, and there was some class III and a not so fun hillside traverse to the saddle. From there on to the summit block was easy. We took the direct route over the block from there, very exposed (maybe a slight IV near the top?)! On the return we took the next chute over from the one we took up. Much more pleasant, easy class III descent. A highlight of my winter in DVNP!

Standard Route  Sucess!

So. Much. Fun. Scrambled up this one on Thanksgiving morning before ruining all the hard work with a big feast back at camp. One of my favorite desert summits thus far. Stick to that rock like velcro! Bring gloves!

2nd time's the Charm!  Sucess!

The winds were not as strong as when I attempted this six years ago. And this time I followed the standard route rather than attempting the summit block from the SE. Left the car at 4:00 pm so the after watching the sunset from the summit I had a headlamp descent of the lower half of the peak. Great beginning of a 3-day trip that included a snowy NY Mtn and Chuckwalla

This turned out to be a lot of fun, even though the mileage on this hike seemed extremely short. Also, there are prairie falcons living on this mountain.
The photos from our hike up there are here, enjoy:

A little known gem  Sucess!

This is fun route to a superb peak. I think it's better than Moapa, which it is often compared to. With mostly solid rock and great vistas from the summit, everyone should enjoy climbing this mountain.
