Overnight climb  Sucess!

Left late from home and arrived at the trailhead at Buckeye at 3PM. Climbed up to an existing campsite by a creeklet at 9500 feet to spend the night. The trail is generally easy to follow but was pretty torn up by cattle. Straightforward climb to the top after the trail disappears. Wandered over to Victoria Peak and then circled back. Obviously not visited much -- except by the cattle.

Buckeye Ridge Up & Eagle Creek "Trails" Back  Sucess!

There are countless assortments of game, cattle, fire, and use trails throughout the area. I stayed high up along Buckeye Ridge and its southeast slopes on the way up, eventually braving the fierce wind as the ridge climbed to the summit. I don't suggest that route unless one wants some extra gain, loss, slope crossing, and bushwhacking away from the main water source. I stomped through the snow on the easy slopes between Eagle Peak and Peak 10,566 at the head of the main canyon to get down, sometimes following the intended primary trail once it became visible (as the snow became patchy and eventually all melted out down lower). If not wanting to guess about the intended main route among the many possible visible trails, stay next Eagle Creek on its northwest side most of the way (as mentioned in the route description section). Anyway, the summit and areas to its southwest and west all provide great views that were enhanced by snow.

Southeast Ridge  Sucess!

Hiked in along Eagle Creek, starting a 6 am. Lots of smoke had settled in from the California fires, but it cleared by midday. Only encountered 2 climbers and 2 hikers all day. From the summit, went on to Victoria Peak which also has some great views.

beautiful memorial day weekend  Sucess!

Hiked in about 5 miles on Sat. Went for the summit on Sunday, back out on Monday. We had the whole place to ourselves on a Memorial Day weekend!! Lucky to be able to do a peak like this in early May, no real snow left~only patches. It was one of the windiest peaks! We didn't go up the face, but rather from Eagle Creek.

Route Climbed: Southeast Face Date Climbed: August 5, 2003  Sucess!

Left after work at 5 pm and barely made the top before dark. It was quite cold and windy, and I didn't spend too much time enjoying the spectacular views of the northern Sierra. Made it back to the toe of the SE Ridge by dark, went the last 6 miles by headlamp. A fine way to finish off the workday.
