it unclimbed? Bad rock or what?

Bad rock is likely the main reason. Also, the face is very remote and likely off the radar screens of most of those with the skills to attempt it.

Its actually good

I found the rock to be of high quality while climbing the East Face Mountaineer Route. Sure there is gravel on all ledges, but under is mostly solid. I foresee many routes on this face. Including one I must finish!
