Eiswandbichl North Face is a nice ice climb for beginners - The normal route is easy walk (IMHO: Don't waste time for the normal route)

Getting There

In Austria from Heilgenblut (Carinthia) or Zell am See (Salzburg) follow the Glocknerstrasse (toll road) to Franz Josefs Höhe.
Public transport in summer only (Mid July to Mid September)
Bus 5002: Heiligenblut - Franz Josefs Höhe; Bus 651: Zell am See - Franz Josef Höhe

Start at Franz Josefs Höhe and walk Gamsgrubenweg up to Oberwalder Hütte (approx. 2,5 hours)

From Oberwalder follow the ridge (NNE) to Eiswandbichl (approx. 20min).

Red Tape - Hohe Tauern National Park

Some regulations in National Park Hohe Tauern - e.g. some areas at Gamsgrube (near the trail to Oberwalder Hütte) are strictly off-limits!

When To Climb

Best time for the North Face is late spring, (early) summer . The toll road to Franz Josefs Höhe usually opens in May.

Huts + Camping

Due to regulations of Hohe Tauern National Park camping is forbidden (bivvys are allowed). Oberwalder Hütte offers accommodation and is quite near.
