Re: Awesome shot!Thanks rdmc.....it was my last night at the Tetons and I was in search of some wildlife. The previous night my twin ran into black bears (cub and mother) and some moose chasing some Elk off. I went back to the same area the next night and there was nothing to be found.
On my way back to camp I found these 2 male Elk eskimo kissing amongst a large herd. We are approaching the rut so these males were likely preparing to face off rather than kissing.

Well, I don't have any elk......but I know when I see two horses acting like this, there's fixin' ta be some nastiness.

Re: Well, I don't have any elk...Thanks for the comments Sarah Simon. What happened next......they just kept eskimo kissing. At one point they stopped and focused their attension on me insted. I got pictures of their stare and it looked more like perfect mirror image. Had I been there a month later I bet would have seen a fight broke out....maybe next year? Happy Trails out there

Maybe instead of "magic hour," it had been
"happy hour," and these two studs had nothin'
better to do than to get HAPPY with one another.
Then again, some things I better left to Mother Nature and your imagination.

Re: A lovely photo!I agree with you Eric...they are very beautiful animals with different personalities. In Utah there is a herd of 80+ Elk in the Oquirrh Range but the second they see you on the ridge they run like hell. In the Tetons they just stare and act like you are not even there. In the end it was worth spending the twilight hours following this herd....trust me there is nothing quite like that expirence. Happy Trails good friend and many thanks for your comments/vote.

Re: Beautiful scene!Standing out in that field for an hour had its rewards. I agree with you about it being a beautiful scene. Some people on the road commented on how I ruined their pictures by being in the way. I told them, "when it comes to wildlife photography its all about location location location so if you snooze, well you loose." It was completely worth hanging out with the Elk...there is nothing quite like watching them.....while among them at the same time. Happy Trails and many thanks for the comments.

Re: Beautiful scene!I admire your patience, I usually get discouraged quickly when it comes to wildlife photography. After all, I am usually short of time and am heading somewhere with a big pack :) But I would love to try photographing wildlife the other way.

Re: Beautiful scene!Well in that case....next time you see some wildlife try taking off that heavy pack and see how close the animal will get to you. Who knows???? It might just be the expirence of a lifetime + you never know when you will capture that epic picture. Happy Trails
