After work, I climbed Emerald Mountain near Estes Park. I climbed it from East Portal. It was a nice climb, but I got two ticks on me.
Nice quick trip up Emerald Mountain the first evening after arriving at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. A beautiful evening summit with a nice overview of Rocky Mountain National Park.
Did this with the family. Nice short hike and good views. great way to see more mountains from the campground.
What a beautiful (if windy!) day!!! Amazing scenery, nice easy hike. The views from this little peak are jaw dropping. Surprised to find a trail all the way to the top and even more surprised no one else had been up it (we were breaking fresh tracks). With Deb.
Quick and easy summit
Nice short morning hike from camp. http://www.coloradoascents.blogspot.com/2014/06/rocky-mountain-national-park-estes-cone.html
Bushwhacked up the west slopes through the trees from Glacier Basin Campground, actually parked across the street at the shuttle bus lot as I was not a guest of the campground. Cool summit, surprisingly rocky and open!
Snagged this one after a snowy climb of Thunder Peak.
An easy, and quick, hike with Peakbug. My back has been bothering me, so this was a good option to get out. The views from the top were great.
Quick hike, striking views, lots of wind. A nice day out with rkymtn.
with great views.
It was the 100th anniversary of the Colorado Mountain Club's first outing (which was to Cheeseman Park, of all things). So the CMC celebrated by climbing Emerald Mountain from the YMCA. We were on the road for half of the hike, then on the trail the rest of the way. It was windy and surprising chilly, but not so much in the trees. We had a ton of hikers on the summit. Views are magnificent from up there.
Made use of the seldom used trail systems to reach the south slope, then up. Nice 60 degree day, built cairn and little windbreak
A super quick jaunt. Glacier Basin CG was closed so I had the whole run of the place to myself!
Good views from on top.
Nabbed this one after "Thunder" & "Lightning". It was a little later in the afternoon and the mountain lion signs at the TH were giving me second thoughts, but it was right there and I couldn't resist. Although I think I was able to make quick work of this one thanks to the signs!
Hiked the South Slope from the East Portal TH. The southern exposure made for a very warm hike in the sun, which was nice.
Great evening hike when you don't to drive away from the campground.
As part of my summer job at YMCA of the Rockies - I sawed up and trucked out hundreds of pines off Emerald for fire control purposes (on YMCA land of course).
great views of the Front Range without too much effort. Anyone who stays at the YMCA of the Rockies should climb up this
