windy day  Sucess!

Four hours and ten minutes to the summit from a bit below the Gold Prize TH. It was a steep trail and I took many rest breaks. Only five people on the mountain and when I got to the top I saw why the college student said he turned around short of the top. Wind gusts were up to about 45 mph, which made my final push a mix between scampering at high speed between bursts of wind and crawling.

Bluebird day  Sucess!

Nice day for a climb today. No clouds or wind on the summit. Saw a herd of mountain goats nearby!

Ski Descent on SE couloir  Sucess!

Skied the SE couloir via emigrant creek. Had to dry approach about a mile but could ski all the way down to Emigrant creek from the summit. The exit run was awesome corn - feels like it never ends. Such a fun peak

Day hike Up west side  Sucess!

Hiked across private land at base of Emigrant, west side. Crossed old wagon path with lots of history laying there to see. My guess is this was the route to Gardiner back in the day. At the summit watched storm forming over Electric Peak to the south. Foolishly thought nothing of it. About half an hour later there is a ring of clouds forming overhead and lighting below me. The ridges off the summit are like spokes on a wheel radiating from the center. Ran down from summit, followed the wrong ridge and half way down end up a good mile south of where I needed to be. But all was good because during the descent, by luck, I narrowly avoided being hit from behind by a chest sized rock at speed that evidently I had dislodged.

Trail Hike  Sucess!

Hiked up with a friend who had his arm in a sling due to a fractured elbow. The trail is pretty good except for one spot with loose rock and hardpan. Lots of smoke but the view of Cowen was still nice.

Evening Hike  Sucess!

Left the 6 Mile Creek Trailhead at 5:30pm and reached the summit around 8:15. Great views but very steep trail the whole way. Back at the car at 10:30.

Emigrant  Sucess!

Was expecting 4000 feet of elevation gain but got 5000 instead! Very smokey conditions so I'll have to do this one again sometime. Sweet rock glaciers everywhere!

NW ridge  Sucess!

An excellent mountain hike! My first adventure in the mountains east of Bozeman. Wanted to go to Black Mountain next, but Pine Creek was on fire. Still had great views into the Absarokas, but it was kind of chilly up on top - felt like the beginning of fall. Pretty much a trail the whole way from Gold Prize Creek - and I'll definitely hike it again some time!

Solo to the top  Sucess!

Recruited to the best of my ability, but all friends a no-go (starting to think I'm bothering them with my friendship and love for the mountains ha). Started off around 8am from truck (slept in truck at Gold Prize Creek TH). Went A ascent route up to saddle, then over to summit by 12. Saddle was tough - terrible rock (1 step up, 2 sliding back). Had to pull class 3/4 moves around the false summit via this route. Went down B ascent route which is ridge below summit south of saddle (and the path the other 4 hikers I saw take up) - much easier and less technical (definitely class 2). Round trip in 6 hrs

Perfect Day  Sucess!

We had a 6pm appt in Bozeman, so we left my house at 6, picked up Parks in Livingston, hit the trail at 7:30, summited by 2 and were back in town at about 5 that evening. The day was beautiful, the skiing was good, the company exceptional. A perfect day in the mountains.

A little breezy....  Sucess!

Nice hike on a threatening fall morning. We were up and down before the rains came through, after enjoying some breezy ridge hiking on the top. Beautiful views of the Absarokas, the Gallatins, and some Beartooth peaks as well.

Good climb for Bad weather  Sucess!

The weather was looking bad for a trip to Mt. Cowen so we bagged this one. A little windy up high, but really nice morning.
