Ascent in 52:32 on a good weather day. My GPS unit showed round trip distance of 6.0 miles? 2.2 miles to Engineer Mountain Trail junction.
I went up in the evening after some storms had passed. I've never seen more Columbines in my life!
Climbed with my brother, John Snell (of Durango at the time) and cousin, Gary McDaniel (also of Durango at the time). We found the climb to be really exciting with lots of exposure. Lots of big, loose rocks, but the views of the Twilight range and other mts in the San Juans were amazing.
brewing thunderstorms added a sense of urgency to our predawn start. by the time my friend mark, my dog and i reached the summit at around 8:00 am, it was definitely time to leave. great day.
An outstanding peak. Second ascent in 54:10 from Coal Bank Pass.
This hike, listed as a Colorado Mountain Club hike, included only the leader, my husband, and I. The wildflowers in the tundra meadows were amazing. We passed a group of Colorado Outward Bound kids on the ridge where they were roping up, this being the first mountain any of them had ever climbed, and were as happy as they when they joined us on the summit.
