I had hiked this a couple of times before in 2004. Extremely short and easy - not even a mile. I rode my mountain bike from Dry Creek on BST and explored a section I hadn't done before and ended up at Ensign Peak. Great views of the city!
Good little up-n-down hike with a pretty veiw of the city.

Standard route
I've hiked a lot of 'urban peaks' the last few years during business trips and the like and I've got to say that the Ensign Peak trail had, hands down, the creepiest / shadiest / scariest visitors of any urban trail visited yet! Yikes! The good news is, I figured I could out-run the junkies and gang members. Neat views, especially liked looking down at the capitol.

Nice little hike
This little hike is great in the winter time. I hiked this with my girlfriend and her little brother after we sat around the house and couldn't figure out what to do. Pretty views of downtown SLC.
i usually run up and down this little guy from my home on 1st avenue a couple times a week. adds some flair to what would otherwise be a rather tame run.
A very short hike to the top of a prominant Hill on the North east bench of salt lake city. Fun for the whole family.

dog's favorite place
Living on Center Street in Salt Lake City for 2 years, my dog had to endure condo life. She lived most of her time on the 10'x10' balcony of our first floor apartment. I took her out to walk every day to get her mind straight, and ensign was a personal favorite that we summitted several times. If you are anywhere near downtown Salt Lake and want spectacular views of the city, this is a must. It is very easy, but worth it. If you want to venture up the ridge to the northwest of Ensign, there are many deer, and I also found an arch in the rocks on the ridge northwest, across the gully, and above Ensign Peak. If anybody finds that arch, please post a pic of it here for me to see. I will verify if that is certainly the one I found as well. Happy trails.

climbed it about 7 times all in a span from October 2007 to March 2008, got real sick of the hike and views now. The hike is piece of cake, anyone can easily do it without problem.

Historic/ClassicI remember having campfires up here/around here as a kid--bet you can't get away with that nowadays.
I agree, not much of a 'climb', but a SLC classic nonetheless. Great views to the Great Salt Lake out west.
