Especially in late winter and early spring, the snowstorms can be brutal. Erciyes is an exposed mountain and there is no obstacle for the atmospheric movements of central Anatolia. Altough there are lift lines on the east side of the mountain, it can be very hard to find the way when you going down.

A lot of tent wreckage counted because of this storms. So pitch you tent as bombproof!

one followed us from our base camp to the place we had to turn back

other 2 attacked our camp in the evening- several stone throws stopped them

At the beginning of August MHP Party organises its annual festival at the foot of Mt Ercyies. There are a lot of people, but it does not disturb attempts to the summit as they do not usually go further than upper lift station

Mount Erciyes - Summit on July, 2017

On the first week of July, 2017, I attempted the climb. It is a tough one to climb, even with one month training. Most of the ascend is on very loose volcanic rock. The last 300 meters are done via free rock climbing, you need to leave your pack back behind before attempting to summit.

The total ascend and descend time was 14 hours, the snow is melting and it leaves iced snow which is super dangerous. You start from 2200 metres elevation and you gain about 1700 meters in less than 9 hours.

The mountain attracts alot of visitors in winter, it is all covered in snow, so alot of tourists go there for skiing. In summer, it is pretty hot and no one is really there.

I have also wrote an article to summarise the experience:
