3rd Highest Mountain - Arizona
Summitted the 3rd highest mountain in Arizona. Now I can say I have climbed the 3 highest mountains in Arizona. On to summitted the four Sacred Mountains to the Navajo.

Escudilla Mountain
Kessler and I climbed Escudilla Mountain. It was a nice mountain and easier than expected.

Only eighty six minutes to the tower and then a half hour bushwhacking over to the summit. Lots of deadfall to negotiate. Two summit registers though!
Lookout trail up to the true summit. Beautiful autumn colors. Great views. Fairly easy hike.

Escudilla Mt
I got an early pre-dawn start so I had the mt to myself. *(I also had a 5 hr drive home after to get back to Green Valley AZ.)
Got up to the tower in short order, found a bench mark, then climbed up the tower as high as the stairs went- just below the cab-now "floor-less- then hung on for dear life while snapping some pics- as the winds gusted to probably 50 mph!
Eyeballed the "high" point...easy 15-min bushwhack to the "true" summit cairn. Found the canister & signed in. Passed a man & his dog about halfway back to the trail head.
A nice enjoyable hike w/ great views!

Cool and drizzly!
Went up to the tower via the Escudilla trail and then on to the true summit with the big cairn. Some drizzle in the morning and views were limited due to clouds. Storms started to roll in when I descended with a brief shower. Could hear the rumbling in the distance.

AZ's 3rd highest
My girlfriend and I hiked up this peak many times during our time living and working in the White Mountains between 2005 and 2007. Really outstanding place to check out some aspen groves and beautiful country. Escudilla is one of the most impressive mountains of the southwest and was one of our favorites.

Big Cairn
Hiked up normal route from south to lookout, then bushwacked
over to true HP with big cairn.
Camped at base of Toolbox Draw and heard elk bugling all night. Hiked up the main trail and got great views from the tower. We went over to the true summit and found the giant cairn in the trees, then hiked down the meadows and forests of Toolbox. Great day in the mountains!

Nice escape from the heat
My wife and I escaped the 118-degree heat of Phoenix for a cool weekend in the Whites. We camped at Alpine Divide and made the easy hike up the southern trails to the lookout, then from there to the big cairns on the north summit. Great hike, with beautiful grassy meadows up high.

Escudilla Nat. Rec. Trail
Actual summit is kinda lame. Fire lookout is pretty fun in the wind!

Met the Forest Service Fire watcher in the tower. Very nice fellow, has been walking the 6 mile round trip for many years during fire season. I think he said he has walked 2,000 some odd miles on that trail.

In the region for mountain biking and decided to hike up Escudilla. Reached lookout tower with my brother on the 10th without realizing it is not true summit. Experienced marble-sized hail in late morning - earlier than expected.
Returned on 17th with my wife to introduce her to the area and go to real summit via Escudilla #308. Intermittant rain but in early afternoon. We then hiked up Govt. trail on 18th. Better workout but not nearly as scenic.
