Route Climbed: Longs peak trail Date Climbed: August 11, 1997 +
I've Climbed up this, as I recall someone saying once, an extinct volcano, many times. It's a good alternative to Longs peak, Chasam lake and Lily Lake with little people traffic. The path is fairly straight up with little switchbacks. A nice piece for a short day outing.
Route Climbed: from Long's Peak TH Date Climbed: July 30, 2005
My fourth or fifth time up, but my nine-year-old son summited with me this time along with a couple of teens who had never climbed a mountain. Photos are available in "Climbing Estes Cone."
Route Climbed: Longs Peak Trailhead Date Climbed: January 1, 2005
I climbed the cone with my wild brother Alex to ring in the new year with style. The hike began as a fun family outing through the snow, but our parents weren't up for the quick, steep scramble to the summit from Storm Pass. Nonetheless, the hike through the woods and past Eugenia Mine was a beautiful, peaceful hike that made for a great afternoon.
Route Climbed: Estes Cone Trail Date Climbed: January 1, 2004
This climb was a great way to break in the new year! I summited with my wild man brother Dylan, and quickly went back down to avoid being blown off to the slopes of Longs Peak! It was also nice for the trail was packed well, and easy to follow because of other hikers tracks. Also, scrambling at the top was a blast, and so was the amazing view.
Route Climbed: Storm Pass Trail from Long's Peak Ranger Station Date Climbed: 09 SEPTEMBER 2004
First hike over 7,500 feet in several years. Climbed with best friend Jason Moore. We are trying to get back into good shape for winter snowshoeing and some more fourteeners next season. One the way up, I had a protracted territorial discussion with a spruce squirrel (Tamiasciurus fremonti) on the way to Moore Park (he won the argument, I must say, by default), and a short encounter near the summit with a very friendly Colorado chipmunk (Eutamias quadrivittatus) who came right up to my feet looking expectantly, no doubt, for trail mix. When I told him I was not going to contribute to any future health problems he might suffer from such a handout, he took off for more promising territory. Encountered many other fellow hikers along the way, including SP members Georg and Betsy, and their friends from Boulder. Saturday, the sky was that deep indigo blue of the Tuareg, punctuated with the hanging silver crescent of a waning Moon, another of those spectacular hiking days that Colorado can boast of so many! Weather: Severe Clear!
Route Climbed: standard Date Climbed: OCT 09, 2004
I conquered this beast along with my friend shack001
despite it's steepness. The view of the Mount Meeker-Long's Peak cirque was awesome. Ran into some fellow Vermonters on the descent as well as Georg and Betsy, both encounters were quite unexpected!
Route Climbed: Longs peak trail Date Climbed: Aug 6 2004
A great alternative if the legs are too tired to do Longs. Its easy to lose the route coming down. If you do, just keep yourself facing longs, angle toward storm peak and you'll run back in to the trail. Some good, small rock faces up at the summit. Would be good for learning rock climbing.
Route Climbed: Longs Peak Trail/ Storm Pass Date Climbed: June 6, 2004
This was my first hike up a Rocky Mountain summit on my first day there. It was quite an amazing mountain for my first one and I'll never forget it. I reached the summit just at sunset and the views were wonderful to Longs Peak and over to Chapin, Chiquita, and Ypsilon. I loved it and will definately be going back! What a beautiful mountain!

Route Climbed: Estes Cone Trail Date Climbed: April 17, 2005Had a beautiful day with great views on top. The snow was for the most part gone except in places along the trail where it was banked.
Two weeks later, I was back up there in a snowstorm with several inches of snow and zero view from the top.
