Euphorbia - Spurge in the Pyrenees

Euphorbia - Spurge in the Pyrenees

Euphorbia is a genus of plants belonging to the family Euphorbiaceae (info from Wikipedia) French Pyrenees June 2007 - genus Euphorbia, common name spurge, so called due to its sap being used historically as a purgative. The milky white sap is best avoided as it can cause skin irritation and in some varieties has been shown to be carcinogenic. This particular specimen is possibly the variety called Euphorbia Amygdaloides, however as I am not a botanist I stand to be corrected.

Euphorbia / Spurge

Maybe it's leaf spurge, but there are a lot of different specie.

Re: Euphorbia / Spurge

Hi BazZ,
thanks for your suggestion, I will check out these for future reference. The Pyrenees is a fantastic area for plants particlarly in late spring before the sun get too hot.

cheers Johnnie
