The cow on the right......just farted. Can't you tell?
Steens Mountain is a cool uplift. I often tell people it's a nice place to visit.

Re: The cow on the right...I agree about Steen's being different and a real change of pace. It was a surprising place and well worth spending some time there.
Just after the above pic was taken, we had the cows and cowboys (4 of them) totally around our vehicle.
The biggest problem was dodging all the cowpies left on the road for the next 4 miles. ; )

YepTis was a common sight in E. Oregon even in the fifties. Sheep too. Thats why the surviving old Main Streets are so wide--eg Elgin. With regard to Klenke's comment, cow effluvia ain't nothin'! Try being stuck behind a hog truck in August all the way from Baker to Halfway.
I like Steens a lot.

I can't beat beingstuck behind a hog truck in August! That's some awesome country out there in the Alvord Desert. I really enjoy the drive between Winnemucca and Lakeview. It's so peaceful, and you see a lot of deer & antelope playing. Thanks for the fond memories, gentlemen!!!

Re: I can't beat beingLarry, speaking of that stretch between Lakeview and Winnemucca, we saw some wild burro's out there, not far from the Oregon/Nevada border. A great and somewhat lonely stretch of road. I know I have a pic of those burros somewhere, I'll have to dig them out of the archives (just for you of course) : )
