FFR  Sucess!

Phil and I started up our usual route to Ontario Peak via Falling Rock Canyon. A short ways up the canyon I spied a cool little chute on the left which was all iced up, decided to give it a try, and it led us up to one of the prominent bumps on Falling Fir Ridge. Then it was pretty easy going until we encountered a butress a little over half way up. I climbed partway up the icy butress (Class 4?), and then traversed left into a short Class 3 chute. Phil went right, dropping down a little into FRC to avoid the difficulties. After that it's an easy walk up to the saddle between Ontario and Peak 8688'. FFR is a fun alternative in winter; prolly not so much in dry conditions. ADDENDUM: I went back on 2-19-10 and tried accessing the ridge from Fir Draw to the east. I liked the FRC route much better.

Off the Beaten Path  Sucess!

From the maps, this is an obvious line. Unable to find any info about it, I had a look for myself and was happy with what I found. I think the ridge is better than neighboring Sugarloaf Ridge and possibly even Register Ridge.
