February 11, 2005 - Wynn...

February 11, 2005 - Wynn climbing a more difficult route in the South Park climbing area of Ouray Ice Park. He is one body-length above a fun cave, that required climbing an overhang and kicking into a free-hanging icicle (climbers left) for a foothold.

Re: Yum.

Thanks! I was amazed at how great the place was - I climbed about 10 pitches over 2 days, but I was really laze. Some people in our group got well over 20 pitches.

Re: Yum.

Cool ! I have read that the ice in the park is usually quite plastic. Did you find that to be the case in Feb ?

Re: Yum.

It varied. Some ice was very plastic, while in other places there seemed to be a bit of a brittle layer on top of plastic stuff. The weather was warm enough that be the afternoon the ice was beginning to get on the slushy and rotten side, but it really varied on location and how thick the ice was to begin with.

Re: Yum.

Mark, just thought I'd mention that we TR'd different variations on this one a couple of times last week. The pillar below and to Wynn's left was a lot of fun.
