From southern lakes to NW ridge  Sucess!

An afternoon cruise from the lakes to the south of the peak to the NW ridge. A couple fun 3rd class moves near the top, but otherwise rather straight forward. Went down the sandy east slope to get back to camp super quick!

From Regiment Lake  Sucess!

Came around the south side of the west ridge, where easy class 2 leads to the flatter southern side of the peak and the short class 3 summit scramble. I unfortunately decided to continue to Tunemah. Trip report.

Blue Canyon/Burn Mtn  Sucess!

Along with Tunemah. From the Rancheria trailhead shortcut up Blue Canyon, return via Burnt Mtn Pass. Traversed from Finger to Tunemah thru the Class 2 pass 0.5mi NE of Dykeman Pass. Beyond Crown Valley the trail is not maintained and is completely overgrown in places, but is still mostly in decent shape until it peters out after Big Meadow. A delightful long forest hike through big pines.

from Midway Lake  Sucess!

Made it to the top as part of an overnight backpacking trip from the Rancheria Trailhead. There was a painful amount of dull, forest hiking involved, but the remoteness of the White Divide made it worth the effort.

Tunemah to Finger ridge traverse  Sucess!

Camped in the headwaters of Crown Creek (an adventure just getting there). Climbed Tunemah first and then worked the ridge over several bumps to Tunemah Lake, then Blue Canyon Peak, and finally Finger Peak. I wasn't impressed with the climb along the east ridge but maybe it was because I just wanted it to be over... Pictures

Best Peak on the White Divide / LeConte Divide  Sucess!

Second peak of a weeklong climbing trip with my friend Doug, Mr. 7x himself. Experienced the full brunt of the first winter Sierra storm, being rewarded with a beautiful early-season snow glazed High Sierra. Camped at the head of Blue Canyon just around treeline. One of the biggest reasons I love the Western Sierra is the campfires and excellent camping. Abundant wood and the wild setting makes for my fondest memories of the mountains. The climbing itself was far better than Reinstein to the North and Tunemah and Blue Canyon Pk to the South. Great relief on the North Face. Will be back for it. : ]

Route Climbed: East Ridge (ascent) / NW Ridge (descent) Date Climbed: Oct 14, 2005  Sucess!

Traversed here from Tunemah Peak on a very, very long day out of the Rancheria trailhead, returning via Crown Creek. This is about the shortest summit stay I've ever had in good weather--literally up, sign the register, snap a bad photo or two, then rush down the northwest ridge. Next time I climb this, it'll probably be on a backpacking trip.
