First lead on north peak of Seneca. Note the Vasque Ascenders, a solid shoe, but not up to the EB's or RRs of the day. First time to place stoppers and clip old pins. March 18, 1978

Re: nice shot

This was our first real outing after spending summer 1977 at Clifton Gorge Ohio. Clifton is a limestone gorge near Yellowsprings Ohio, Max 50 feet but steep humid and slippery so in some sense a good learning place. None the less Seneca looked far more imposing and did not have the convenience of a top rope set up in March 78. This was THEIR first lead and I do not recall who lead first, but I watched and/or belayed. They slotted a few stoppers and clipped a few old pins and up we went. It was really much easier than Clifton Gorge, but the rope was below. I did it easily with the rope above and it was pretty casual but could not bring myself to to go beyond the first clip on lead. That took about a year.
