Hot day
Hiked up through Pelican Canyon. My black dog Rocky got overheated, so I had to wrap him in my white t-shirt, and soak it with water. He cooled off quickly, but I ended up sunburned. Lot of work for a pile of rocks...
The hike itself isn't too bad. I started out from the west side, but bailed because of lightning. The weather appeared to clear, so I tried again from Pelican Point.
I don't know if I ate something bad, was too dehydrated or what, but I did not feel well during my time on top of the plateau. Made it back to the trees before the lightning returned.

Good times
From the parking lot we went straight up. i was calling with my elk calls and must of called in a heard of elk because i had elk everywhere. Just when we made it to the top a snow storm hit and we had to walk out in the snow and darkness.

One more county highpoint checked off
#1 8-27-09 This is a pleasant hike. For the most part the trail is easy to follow although a couple of the signs can be confusing. I will post some sort of report if I can and include pictures to help those looking for better hints than the ones in the two county highpoint books in publication. They are outdated in many respects. #2 5-27-13 Obwohl ich wunderbare Geselschaft hatte so war diese Wanderung schwer da es so viel Schnee gegeben hat das der richtige Weg unmoeglich zu folgen war. Trotzdem haben wir es geschafft!

Fish Lake Hightop
We did the long scenic drive through Cathedral Valley in Capitol Reef in the morning. Then we made it to Fish Lake Hightop in the afternoon. I liked the huge boulders on the summit. Really cool.
Took the Pelican Canyon route to the plateau. Had a hard time finding the actual highpoint. Eventually resorted to the GPS. Only a small wood structure and USGS marker at the highpoint. The meadow was beautiful on top of the plateau

Island
This is a very cool peak. I loved the actual summit of this one, I felt like I was on some sort of island with all the huge rocks around me. Great hike.

Got on a 5 highpoint trip bagging Brian Head, Andy Nelson, Bluebell Knoll, Fish Lake Hightop and Monument Peak.
Went down in a snowstorm at dark... What an experience!

Cold motha!
With Brandon and Darren Nielsen. We had snow, wind and clouds. We were well prepared, but it was very cold on this day.
Reached the top just in time to watch the sunset. Enjoyable hike on the plateau. Temps in the low 60's, tons of deer and elk. Summit register was destroyed, only the lid remained.

Foggy hike
This was a foggy hike with very little visibility. There was still quite a bit of snow on the plateau and it was much colder than expected (15F or so).
Parked near Gahew Spring turnoff road and hiked to the top. Had the peak all to myself on a glorious clear day. Met up with an ATVer on the way down.

ascended via Tasha Creek Trail and descended via Pelican Canyon
I climbed this one with my brother, Guy. We were at a family reunion at Fish Lake and what started out as a family hike up Tasha Creek with 16 of us ended up with just Guy and I climbing to the top (where we found and photographed the USGS marker - not an easy task on a flat topped mountain). Beautiful country up there.

Family Tradition
I've been on the hightop many times during October's deer hunting season. Various routes including Tasha Creek, Pelican Canyon and from what I remember, a walk up from a 4WD road above Daniel's Canyon.

Neat place
We drove up a 4WD road that was one of the worst I've ever driven.
Snow stopped us about 2 miles short of the summit and we slept at 11,000 feet that night. Got up early and hiked through the snow to the summit. Then made our way to Bluebell Knoll in nearby Wayne county the same morning.

6th of 8 in a day Co. HPDrove up the 4WD road from Eric's instructions. I think that it might actually be faster to hike up Pelican. :)
