37 peaks in 19 days  Sucess!

There was bad weather for weeks in WA so Heather and I drove through OR, CA, NV, UT, and ID. We climbed 37 peaks in 19 days and on the 13th day of the trip we did Deseret Peak, Flat Top Mountain and Lewiston Peak. Deseret was a lovely hike similar to Timpanogos but Flat Top was a horrible hike through cattle grazing land with numerous biting flies. trip report

Bushwhack!  Sucess!

With Sam Jewkes, Jen Richards, Tara Summers and Leslie Howlett. The approach is a total schwack, but I loved this remote peak with incredible views from the summit.

Oquirrh Highpoint  Sucess!

#1. 10-14-14. Quite the summit. Could not find a survey marker but found a silver mailbox and the oft-mentioned solar panel leftovers. My GPS showed a distance of 1.17 miles from Lewiston Pk. IVD. Jambo. #2 11-08-14. Again from Lewiston. Tolle Gesellschaft! #3 3-18-16 W/Brent. First winter ascent of the Oquirrhs highpoint. Halls Basin to a gnarly ridge up to the ridge between Lewiston and Flat Top. Micro-spikes all the way up, SS down off the main ridge. 5+31 up, 3+24 down. R/T 8.44 miles. Had to park on the main road below the normal TH. #4 3-17-17 W/ Signe. From Lewiston Pk (via east ridge) and descent down the big broad basin into Pole Canyon. Snowshoes down to 6,500' on the road. #5 4-21-17 W/ Jim, Brent, Lana & Dave. After Lewiston. Excellent snow for crampons above 8,200'. Never used snowshoes. Descended from the notch between Lewiston & Flattop.

Cool Peak  Sucess!

Started at the trailhead and bagged Lewiston as well. 11 Mile RT in 6 hours 45 minutes with 4,027 ft. of gain. Only had to deal with a few snow drifts on the North side of Lewiston. The route finding was surprisingly easy. Great view too!

Quick PM jaunt  Sucess!

Drove to the saddle, then took the left fork of the trail, which I lost in the slushy woods. Went straight up the open slope north of the forest, then down the right fork of the trail from the ridge. Trip report.

fresh fall snow  Sucess!

runbyu's directions proved pretty good. We drove part of the way up in my FJ cruiser and stopped at 7600ft. One could drive all the way to the saddle at 8000ft with an ATV but there are huge ruts that would deter most full size 4WD. From the saddle we managed to lose the trail periodically partially due to it going through scrub oak and partly due to 3-4 inches of fresh snow from the day prior. The "new" trail on the north side of the subpeak was nice. There are new summit register notepads now and I was a little honored to sign in right after the inimitable Gerry and Jennifer Roach. Good views for sure. We were able to follow the trail quite a bit better on the way down.

Leat Favorite Mountain Part 2  Sucess!

This part coming over from Lewiston Peak actually was not that bad. It was a nice ridge run that I may have enjoyed had I not been so cranky after all the bushwhacking up the mountain and worried about the incoming storm. My comment once we got to the top was "this is...flat." I honestly didn't realize what I was saying until after I'd said it. Suddenly the name made sense. From far away I didn't think it really looked flat but compared to other summits I've been to it really was flat. I wasn't overwhelmed by the views but did enjoying looking back at the Oquirrs and finding out car in the parking lot.

Summit register is FULL - July 2013 Route Up Flat Top and Lewiston  Sucess!

We made the drive out to Ophir, which was a super cool little town and started up South Fork Road around 3pm. Once we got to the saddle and turned off the road, it was mostly bad trail and cross country from there but we made it up to Lewiston and then over to Flat Top. The summit register is full, so if someone sees this, they may want to take a new one up to the summit. We were only the 7th people to have signed the register this year! We got chased off the top by a Thunderstorm but made it out just fine only getting wet. The new route around the North ridge from 9600 down to 9000 is great and kept us in the trees and out of the rain and lightning. There seem to have been a bunch of changes on the mountain since the last information was posted so I put up a trip report titled 'July 2013 Update - How to get to Flat Top and Lewiston' so that people would have a comprehensive source for getting to the top of these peaks.

December Chill  Sucess!

This is a tough mountain slogging through snow; even with snowshoes. Anyway, I decided to climb up this mountain in a storm, and it was probably in the negative on top...especially with the wind chill. I spent 5 minutes; made a short vid, took some pics and was gone. Plunge step for the win!

Great hike  Sucess!

Hiked from the new trail head parking lot near the beginning of South Ophir Canyon up the ATV trail to the Mercur overlook and then took the trial up to just below Lewiston Peak. Hiked up the ridge to Lewiston and over to Flat top. 4 hours 10 min total from car to flat top. 3700 ft elevation from car to flat top. Perfectly clear and sunny day. Great views.
