Double summit, 2x the fun!  Sucess!

Hiked with friends Sam and Greg from SLC after we were asked repeatedly in Anchorage, "did you climb Flattop?". Quick hike up, then on up the ridgeline to Peak 2 (come on, couldn't anyone find a better name?). Ran across a mother moose and her calf before heading down the other side, then reclimbing Flattop when we realized the road would be a little longer. It was a nice hike.

Success during vacation  Sucess!

Got turned around in Sept 2012 by 40mph+ sustained winds and hail not to far up this hike, was able to top out in near bluebird conditions this go around. Great scenic hike, definitely a popular one - minor tech scramble up typical route for last 150ft

Flattop Mountain  Sucess!

Great climb leaving around 1800. Very windy which made it chilly! Will not forget a woolly hat next time. Crowded trail but we enjoyed the empty summit :)

Flattop Mountain  Sucess!

This was the first hike I did after I got off the plane in Anchorage. I went up with my wife and two young daughters. My wife and daughters stopped about 100 ft. above the second saddle. The scrambling made my wife a bit nervous for my daughters. I continued to the summit alone. It's a really beautiful area. You can see all the way to Anchorage.

After Work Hike  Sucess!

I try to do this hike once a week or so after work. I live in South Anchorage so it is easy to access from my house. Depending on how long I stop at the top to enjoy the view, I am up and back to my truck in an hour and a half. The scramble at the top is fun, but can be treacherous in wet conditions. The rocks have become so rounded and smooth from all the traffic that they can be rather slick. I come across a lot of people who get most of the way to the top and then want to stop a few hundred feet from the summit because the rocks look so intimidating. Really, they are not that bad!

On nice days, the parking lot is PACKED. However, don't park on the road. I know people who have been ticketed for doing that. I find that the crowds are smaller and the view is still nice on days that are a little overcast. Even when it looks like there are clouds at the top, it often looks better once you are up there!

Flattop  Sucess!

I believe I was 5 years old the first time I climbed this little peak in front of Anchorage. Of course, I have been back up there many times since then and enjoy running from town up to the summit and back nowadays.
