Burning the midnight oil...  Sucess!

Hiked this mountain in July of 2004...beginning our hike at 9pm in perfect daylight! Cool views from the summit and a great way to end an amazing Alaskan adventure! Pics and trip report can be found here Natural Born Hikers-Flattop Mountain Enjoy!

From Glen Alps TH  Sucess!

A quick hike which yielded great views of Anchorage and nearby peaks. The scramble to the summit added some fun to this otherwise uneventful climb. I had the summit to myself, which was a pleasant departure from what was expected.

Classic Into To AK  Sucess!

If you are ever visiting the Anchorage area and have a few hours to get a hike in, this is the one for you! It's fairly easy, and offers some fantastic views of the Anchorage Bowl and the surrounding peaks like Foraker, Susitna and Denali to name a few.

Flattop at Sunset  Sucess!

Gorgeous views and 50 degree temperatures. Started from the parking area at 8:15pm and reached the summit at 8:48pm, but only because I ran some of the trail. It was windy at the summit, but not too cold.

Great View  Sucess!

At 20 minutes from my home, it can't be beat. Easy climb with a bit of a scramble for the last 200ft. Great views of surrounding peaks. If you're lucky enough to go on a clear day it's possible to see McKinley if you know what you are looking for. Lots of people mistake it for a cloud formation on the horizon. Very crowded on a nice day though.

Many times  Sucess!

I first hiked up Flattop Mountain as part of a Hanshew Junior High School cross-country running team practice. We went the standard route. Many subsequent trips have occurred, some from the Canyon Road trailhead and some from the Powerline Trail to the north. A recent trip was on September 30, 2006, with my five-year-old niece for her second ascent of the mountain. I climbed Flattop Mountain again on March 14, 2008, and again on May 10, 2008.
