Route Climbed: Black & Tan Gully, West Face Date Climbed: Feb. 27, 2006  Sucess!

Approached from Mayflower Gulch with Timothy Pearl, up to the base of the West face. Busted up one of the gullys, back and forth over some of the aretes, and up to the summit at about 5pm. Fletcher for sure this time, not Drift Pk. like last week.

Fresh snow on the trail in the morning, and its still only August!

Route Climbed: SE Ridge via Blue Lakes Date Climbed: 23 October 2005  Sucess!

A slathering of early season unconsolidated graphite paved the way to the small, rime-encrusted summit. Incredible views from the crows nest. Quite comfy at 25F with low winds.

Cool summit. It still looked like winter when we climbed on this particular day. We had some nice glissades on the way back down. The last 1000 feet was basically solid snow climbing. The last 75 feet horizontal to the summit was a little scary along the top of the ridge with the snow but it was over quickly.

Route Climbed: Blue Lake TH to Quandary saddle Date Climbed: May ?, 2004  Sucess!

Fun trip. Tried to summit Quandary afterwards, but storm sent us retreating down couloir to North about 300 yards or so from the Summit.

Route Climbed: Southeast Ridge via Blue Lakes Date Climbed: June 5, 2005  Sucess!

Perfect late spring day with a nice mixture of snow fields and tundra. Upon entering the basin on the miners trail, I went immediately up onto the ridge on the west side of the basin rather than climb the headwall of the basin. This made for a nice rolling climb and avoided any avalanche danger.

The ridge to the summit had several cornices over the dramatic northeast wall of Fletcher. I gave those plenty of clearance. Plenty of snow on the summit ridge which is quite exposed to the north. What a beautiful mountain!

Fletcher is normally a lonely place, but a group of 8 climbers followed me 100 yards behind and joined me on the summit. We were the only ones to climb it and made the summit at the same time.

Route Climbed: South East Ridge Date Climbed: June 29, 1985  Sucess!

Rather than following the route up the gentle ridge to the left, we stayed in the center of the drainage that leads to the saddle between Fletcher and Quandary. There are several steeper "steps" in this gulch that held nice snow fields for a nice "mixed" climb, alternating between snow and tundra. On the descent these snow slopes made for fine glissades.

Great hike to an impressive summit without anyone besides my hiking partner. Some wind packed snow above the Fletcher/Quandry saddle but still no problem. Great views of the surrounding areas. Highly recommended to avoid the crowds.

Route Climbed: Blue Lakes Dam Date Climbed: September 3, 2004  Sucess!

A great climb in perfect solitude. The route following the small stream past the many lakes above treeline is a fantastic tour through some beautiful hanging valleys. I did the West Ridge of Quandary to round out the day, and I didn't see a soul until the peak of Quandary. I descended the Monte Cristo Couloir to Blue Lakes, which I highly discourage because it's so eroded and loose. I'd either descend the East Ridge and walk to the dam or descend the West Ridge if I did this again.

Route Climbed: Southeast Ridge via Blue Lakes Date Climbed: August 22, 2004  Sucess!

I climbed this with the Colorado Mtn Club. We saw nobody else climbing Fletcher, but we could see plenty of hikers on Quandary. The weather was a little fussy, mostly cloudy with some light snow higher up (some of the higher peaks in the area have had a light dusting of snow in the last few days). It's a great hike, lots of solitude, not too difficult, and great views of the surrounding mountains.

Route Climbed: Mayflower Gulch Date Climbed: August 14, 2004  Sucess!

Started at Mayflower Gulch trailhead and ran the the road to the 4X4 parking. Proceded up the road past some old mining cabins and then left the road a bit too early after spotting a switchbacking old mining trail. This trail didn't last long and then we were faced with loose talus for the rest of the way to the summit. The summit had a register tube and inside was a map of the route from Quandary side that had been posted on Summitpost by Aaron Johnson. Nice work Aaron!!!

Fun hike with my two dogs! They loved the small stream, ponds and snowfields! They did not like the boulder hopping!

Plenty of exciting ice and snow on the upper ridge. Saw no one until the summit of Quandary later that day.

Route Climbed: Southeast Ridge via Blue Lakes Date Climbed: July 22, 2000 and August 22, 2002  Sucess!

What a gem of a peak! I found a really neat mining-era chisel the first time up! A great intro peak to the Tenmile Range. Beautiful valleys on all sides of the peak help! The second time up I went down a little bit towards Atlantic Peak....WOW! Next time I want to try that route out.

I really like the Tenmile Range, and Fletcher's summit provides nice views of the other High 100 peaks in the area. The hike up the valley from Blue Lakes is fun and full of possibilities if you get creative. The view of Quandary is awesome from this vantage. I had perfect skies this day and made the summit in 2 hrs from the Blue Lake Dam. I saw no one else en route. A great peak for solitude during the week!

A nice hike across tundra and interesting rock climbing up to the summit. A nice place to go if you want to get away from all the people on Quandry. Provides some nice views of McCullough Basin and the West ridge of Quandry. I imagine in a wetter year and earlier in the season the flowers would be fabulous. Interesting ruins of an old mining cabin along the way.

My first Colorado climb above 12,000. Stunningly beautiful. Hiked to the top of Fletcher then north along the ridge.

Definately worthwhile. The summit is a suprisingly short distance from the Fletcher-Quandry Saddle. I committed the cardinal sin of starting the route on this mountain at 9:00, and managed to summit Fletcher and the stellar Quandry west ridge route by 4:00 (t-storms were cooperating that day). Even if you aren't trying to do the centennials (100 highest), I HIGHLY reccomend this peak in conjunction with the west ridge for the solitude, views and "alpine" feel. The valley SW of Quandry feels like something out of a Ricola commercial.

Now, I must say that there have been some people who have felt 'misled' regarding the west ridge of Quandry. If you're planning on doing fletcher and Quandry together, be prepared for difficult route finding and some breathtaking (some would say frightening) exposure on Quandry. See the Quandry post for more info..

I did Fletcher from the Blue Lakes Dam, before going to Quandary Peak along the west ridge. Fletcher had some great views and solitude. I recommend it highly. You can go to
