Planned on doing the Pitamakin-Dawson Loop as a one night backpack staying at Oldman Lake. Got to Dawson pass with time to spare so decided to climb up Flinsch. Nice climb, not really technical at all. Maybe 40 minutes up from Dawson pass and 20 minutes back down. Great views from the top.
from dawson. a twofer with mt. helen. wicked hot day. fairly easy climbing with vernon. great views of classic glacier wilderness & the jagged toothy st. nicholas peak.
Climbed solo while on 3 day loop backpack with Glacier Guides. Class 3 was loose but not exposed
This was the middle mountain on a day that started at Two Medicine campground, ascended Rising Wolf, and finished with Mt. Helen before heading back to camp (and food and beers!)
climbed this peak as sort of a bonus on the dawson-pitamakan loop. can't describe the views because the top of the peak was socked in. but i bet they're nice!?
CLIMBED WITH VERN INGRAHAM OF WHITEFISH, MT WHILE HIKING THE LOOP OVER PITIMAKIN, CUTBANK AND DAWSON PASSES ONLY TO FIND THE N TRAIL BY TWO MED LAKE CLOSED FOR GRIZ ACTIVITY AND GET BONUS MILES ON THE SOUTH TRAIL!
What a nice mountain in a (even for GNP) spectacular setting! Not in the least difficult except for the summit block (and that not unduly so), Flinsch Peak now goes on the list as one of the recommended "first" GNP climbs for newcomers to the park.
Very nice day indeed--done with Meleah, who is a great climbing partner! (We also did Mount Helen, which is directly across the pass from Flinsch.)
With Fred. A long day, but with very fine views.
