Forbes Hill

Forbes Hill

Forbes Hill, Quincy, as seen from Quincy Quarry. Forbes Hill is geographically part of the Quincy Hills but of little interest to hikers as it is entirely developed. There is a public park (baseball field etc) at the top, and the tower provides good views. The turreted stone tower conceals a steel water tank ("standpipe") which I believe has been unused since the opening of the Quabbin reservoir. The masonry facade was completed in July 1904 at a cost ("exclusive of engineering") of $26,120 and consists, naturally, of Quincy granite.
