Fort Reno+  Sucess!

My mom and I did the Circulator bus/Red line route, stopping in at the Whole Foods afterwards to replenish ourselves after such a strenuous climb! If you want to add some "city walking" to the trek I recommend what we did---after Whole Foods we walked over to the National Cathedral, which is beautiful and has fantastic gargoyles. Go up the bell tower for a good view on Fort Reno and the rest of DC. From there we headed over to the National Zoo to see the cheetahs and the pandas. Finally, we had a late lunch at the Afghan Grill, down the road from the zoo. From there we walked down to DuPont Circle and caught the metro back to our hotel, The Channel Inn right on the Potomac!

Not really one of my U.S. Highpoints, but I'll take it  Sucess!

I have pretty much done all of the highpoints that I am going to do on the East Coast for this year, so I figured this one would just be a bonus of sorts. I drove to the parking lot near the school and walked around the fence and up to the highpoint. Nothing fantastic. Nice crisp Sunday afternoon though, so it was actually quite pleasant.

Another HP  Sucess!

Visited in my work clothes on the way back from a visit to a contractor in Northern Virginia. Took a few wrong turns in trying to get to the area but eventually made it. Spent about 10 minutes total in the park and easily found the natural highpoint. I finally hit this one, since I have made plans for the last 9 months to do it.

A "Bonus" To A Highpointing Trip!!!  Sucess!

After making a big loop, reaching seven State Highpoints during the prior two days, I finished my Mid-Atlantic Loop Trip with a morning visit to a "bonus" HP, Point Reno. Beautiful weather, no shady characters. The closest parking areas were taken up by school staff and construction workers, so I parked along Cumberland, just across the street from the park, and had a pleasant walk up the park's grassy slope to the summit.

Fort Reno  Sucess!

Stopped by on my way home from WV. Nice little park, although there were a few sketchy characters hanging around.

Fort Reno  Sucess!

Get off at the Tenleytown/AU stop on the Red line. Head out of the subway and go North up 40th/Fort.(They run parallel) Go past a "Whole Foods" to Chesapeake. Take a right(East)and look for the gravel road on your left. It runs past a small stage up the hill. You can see the stage on Google Earth. It's obvious where the highpoint is. Walk up to the top and you're there. It takes about 10 minutes round trip.

Highpointing by Public Transportation  Sucess!

Sketchy characters were lingering in the schoolyard nearby, so I made a brief visit. There was actually an outfitter shop only a couple of blocks away. A great place to gear up for your climb!
